I bet you it's FaMi, the Batsly Adams program that's on the way - he's been busy with viz and the DrunkenNES project, but hopefully it'll be done soon. Look him up at batslyadams.com.

Agreed. The open mics at 8static are starting to get scary-good. and i mean that in the best way possible - the 8 or so open mic'ers all delivered solid performances with nicely varied styles. keep it up PHL!

This was so much damn fun. Thank you so much to everyone that came out, and a neverending sea of high-fives to  Bit Shifter and The Shortsleeves, The C-Men and the surprise addition of Chromacle on viz.  Philly rules.
BTW - TONS of video from the show can be seen here:

Thanks to Emily Feder for filming the entire thing!!!!

Why not plug it in and use it during a non-zapper game to see what it does?
EDIT: apparently i can't spell "zapper".

This is excellent. If I ever get up the nerve to mod one of my usb carts, i'll definitely give this a try. Would you be willing to post instructions/a more detailed description of what pins to solder to?

@ Natty: Back in high school, I used to stop my friends mid-sentence and exclaim "Oh shit! I almost forgot!"
They would invariably reply:"What, what is it?"
To which I would respond "The Alamo."

MSSIAH is good for the c64, and hopefully FaMi will be done soon so you can use that for the NES.
I think the MeeBlip, though technically not chip hardware, could get some nice square sounds out of it.

bleo - tried that on both of the transferers, no luck unfortunately. thanks for the tip though.

nitro2k01 - the cart had no songs on it so i'm in the clear on that one.  Is there any sure test to determine whether the flash chip is shot or not?

I had a cart with mgb on it for a while and I tried to flash it to lsdj 3.9.9 with a transferrer 1. The program froze in the middle of the upload.   This resulted in the cart not booting and only showing a blank screen after the Nintendo logo. I was unable to format the cart and unable to overwrite the ROM either.  I gave it to EmDash to see if he could get it to flash with his transferrer and it wouldn't take the ROM from him either. His transferrer was able to successfully write to another one of my EMS carts, so it seems as though the problem is more with the cart and not with the transferrer.  His transferrer claims that LSDJ is flashed to the cart, but neither of us can get it to boot- it looks like it flashed only part of the ROM, and therefore it won't start.

I'm not sure if this means the cart is completely busted or what...anyone have any ideas? Anyone seen this happen before with the blue EMS carts?

I wouldn't advise soldering a powerpak to the NES, you might end up damaging the FPGA inside of it. You'd be better off getting a new 72 pin connector for the NES and keeping the connector pins clean on the powerpak. That, and maybe finding a way to not bump the NES during your live set, or some way to pad it so that any bumping wouldn't cause the cart/72 pin connector to misalign.

I'll just leave this here...

from what i've seen, it at least makes it far easier to use- a mouse or joystick is key for efficient MSSIAH use.

The things that happened in this place with the guys doing the stuff?
All of it was good.
Realllll good.

That is all.

I am interested in:

The cynthcart
The sid2sid board

and i'd like to know more about the sonus midi interface- i can't find much about it online but would love to know what it can do.

thank you nitro! please make it happen.

I've always wanted to do this, but I'm pretty sure no such solution exists at the moment....anyone want to prove me wrong?
