It's often stated that JavaScript is a special-purpose language, designed for use by web sites to enable dynamic interaction. However, JavaScript is a full object-oriented programming language, and is used in arenas besides the Web: the Widgets available for recent versions of Windows and Apple's Mac OS are implemented in JavaScript, as is the GUI for the Mozilla application suite.

With the recent introduction of the <canvas> tag to HTML, the question arises as to whether a JavaScript program is capable of emulating a system, much like desktop applications are available to emulate the Commodore 64, GameBoy Advance and other gaming consoles. The simplest way of checking whether this is viable is, of course, to write such an emulator in JavaScript.

This article sets out to implement the basis for a GameBoy emulation, by laying the groundwork for emulating each part of the physical machine. The starting point is the CPU.

doesn't this already exist?

or is java different from javascript? i don't really know anything about that stuff.

music playing in the background is an annoying thing i'd say...  always give the user the option of turning the shit off and on because it's just annoying when shit starts playing and you can't shut it off.  i understand you want people to hear something...  a good layout will make them want to click on the mp3.

amen.

so, i finally decided to dive into famitracker. i've been using it for about a week but i'm picking it up pretty easily.

i thought it would be a cool and fun way to learn the program better if i collaborated on a song with someone who knew it better than me. any style.

let me know if you're interested!

you can hear some songs here -

any chance we'd be able to choose the backgrounds we'd glitch up, like gallerynes?

also, could you use this to sync lsdj wirelessly?

http://www.amazon.com/Game-Boy-Advance- … amp;sr=1-5

couldn't you mod it very easily to work with the DMG? or with an arduinoboy?

i bought two of these to try this kind of thing, simple answer is no,

i am thinking of making a wireless adapter thing for the SP that can link with midi or another gameboy wirelessly but also transmit the sound wirelessly so you can have it totally portable but still plugged into the mixer.

also your original thing about having headphones on the SP, i fit headphone jacks to all my SPs which saves having the adapter

that's too bad you can't use them for wireless sync.

but your idea is amazing. as always.

i would say it would be logical if it went from left to right.

go to a pawn shop and get a drill for 5 bucks. that's what i did.

i've also used the saw on a swiss army knife.

I didn't watch the video, but there is no reason why you need an on/off switch that I could think of!

maybe to prevent extra noise? my Expansion mod makes some nasty buzz and wine when it isnt in use. As soon as i load a nsf it clears up but during the menu screen its pretty nasty. when i unplug the wire the sound goes away... i dont know.

yep, i've got this noise too. i might install a three way switch though, to turn the mod on and off, just like in that video, and then to use the independent jack i installed.

when i used a guitar hero guitar, here's how i did it.

i was using reason 4 and junxion to set the guitar to control various midi stuff. i set the pick thing to play a C3. when it hit the C3, it would trigger 5 different samples of chords, but they were all muted. so, if i were to just strum it, nothing would happen.

each of the buttons on the neck were set to unmute a different sample. so, if i pressed one down and strummed, it would only play that sample.

it felt just like strumming a real guitar. the whammy bar was set to pitch bend, obv. other buttons let me cycle through different sets of samples (acoustic guitar chords, synth chords, single notes, etc.).

mine had a slider control on the neck that i set to control some delay effects.

it was really fun and i liked my set up a lot more than some people i've seen online who set it so the buttons are what play the notes. i like having use my left and right hands together to make the sounds. it's much more intuitive that way for a guitar player.

just did the mod and installed the right nsf playback stuff. expansions sounds activated!

this seriously sounds so great. such an easy little mod but with such big results.

quick question though... if i wanted a separate output for JUST the expansion sounds, which pin would i connect my audio jack to, 3 or 9? which is the out and which is the in?

While I may not be too helpful here - and I'm sure someone will give you the answer soon enough - but it would be easy enough to just try one and then the other.  Using an alligator clip or something would make it pretty simple.

good call. it was pin 9.

initially, i had grounded it incorrectly, so whenever i plugged anything in to the output jack, it would turn off the NES. fixed that and then it worked but it was WAY quiet. i got rid of the resistor and now the channel is as loud as the others.

i didn't realize i wouldn't need the resistor if i was making it a separate output.

anyways, i love it. i'm so pumped.
