Now now. I didn't say the charts represented the best tracks. I'm just saying that for a lot of people the goal of "making the chart" was a good incentive to release lots of singles on 8bc, and now that it's gone, I know a lot of people are holding back tracks for releases instead.

I really see a trend in that direction. This year I've heard more releases I liked from people I'd barely heard of than amazing single tracks. Of course, post-8bc I fully admit that I'm listening to less individual tracks.
Auxcide wrote:No one cares about singles nowadays anyways.
Yeah, I really feel like with the death of 8bc (and its loved/hated charts) there's less motivation within the chip community to release individual songs. I know I've slowed down with individual song releases, and prolific composers like Jredd are holding back and compiling releases as well. It's interesting, but I do kind of miss the quirky one-off tracks that showed up on 8bc.
I worked on my last EP for about 7 months.
I've been working on another EP for about a year (That one involves live instruments and it's taking longer)
I've been working on yet another EP for about 5 months. I think I might be finished with it in another month or two. Or three...
I like to group songs that I think fit together, so I end up working on multiple EPs concurrently.
That Worms Armageddon track was neat. It definitely sounded C64-ish at times. Nice!

Pffft. I got drunk and realized I'm interested in things. Fuck stuff.
I also discovered I'm not a real doctor.
and I like to play the drums.
And I am a real worm.

Limiting/compressing would be a good topic.
I have long since lost my childhood game boy.
I bought a regular old grey game boy from Game Over video games in Austin, TX for my first "music making" game boy.
When you're starting out, there's no need for mods. Just get a regular game boy and a cart and party.
I wish I could attend this show. Rad lineup.
I actually just picked up an EZ Flash IV about two months ago. I have a mini-SD and it works perfectly, so I can't comment on adapter issues.
I could not find a US dealer. I got mine from 0shippingzone.com and the shipping was pretty fast for HK to the US. A friend of mine bought one from there about a month ago with good results ... but the site isn't loading this morning.
Anyway, it works well and if you fear adapter issues, you can get a mini-SD for cheap on amazon or eBay.
danimal cannon wrote:A sine on the wave channel can actually go lower than most speakers can handle
Exactly. The DMG can go low. You just need to optimize your song to make the bass more apparent. Carefully controlling the volume around your bass is the first step.
Lower the volume of your pulse and noise and boost the overall volume of the DMG. Boom, louder sounding bass.
[edit] also, the smoother the shape of your waveform, the quieter apparent sound of low-frequencies. Try cutting a notch in your sine or square waves manually to make the low end a bit harsher and stand out a bit more.

in return I'll say something that I have been meaning to say for a while now: this current gen of new chiptune artists (aka you guys in this thread) are fucking amazing. the level of programming and music skill shown by auxcide, frostbyte, Vince, roboctopus, aeros and all you guys is just unreal for your respective ages.
lol. I would bet cashmoney I'm older than you, but thanks, since you make tight musix!
[edit] I don't mean that in a dickish way, I'm just old, haha.
