For me the only real loss is the music.

So many things that I favourited but never downloaded hmm

Was thinking about putting together some podcast things of the things that I did download though.

Same for me.  Especially those one-song wonders whose names you can't remember.

I was thinking about starting like an 8bc memorial Youtube channel of all the songs I downloaded that I can't find anywhere else.

I remember when we were amazed that there were 10,000 members.

Spoiler: The site probably still only has about 10000 real members. Back when I was still admin there, I made some statistics about this. It turned out that 60% or so of the user accounts were unused. No forum posts, no music/images, not even music/image comments, and never logged in after first signup. I suspect most/all of these accounts were spam accounts that never got past the first step in the registration.

I would have guessed a lot less than 10,000.  I had a song at number one for like 3 weeks and that was 600 something plays.  If you asked me I would have guessed maybe 1,500 active users listening to the tunes.

(edit: by that I mean regular users, not people that drop by once a month.)

Lets buy it.

to let that much traffic and than many members just disappear is terrible from a business perspective

so say nothing about nostalgia and good memories ;(

That's always confused me about how the site was managed.  I've been wondering for awhile if Jose doesn't care about it, why not either put ads on it or sell it to someone.  Does not make sense.

Isn't it just under construction?  Or was the plug really pulled?

There is only one kind of circle i'll sit with you guys in.

It's a drum circle, right?

I wish Blip 2012 was held in Northern Alabama.

Nashville would be cool too.

Thanks SurfaceDragon. Hope you got something out of it.

Will you be writing more columns about the Wave and Synth screens within LSDJ?

Yes, I'll be revisiting those topics many times.

SurfaceDragon wrote:

And does the quote below mean that someone like myself can write a column for LSDJ and You?

Yep. Though I'd like to maintain editorial control, just to make sure the quality is there each week.

SurfaceDragon wrote:

And your column has inspired me to start writing "Nerdrix and You" and "Onputer and You"(these are working titles that I can change if you don't want me copying you

Lol.  I'm pretty sure I stole the name from some where else.  Use it all you want. tongue

I posted this in the tutorials section but more people may see it here.

My second LSDJ article is up at NoiChan.  This one is an intro to hand-drawn waveforms.   Check it out if you're interested:

This release is uber stellar.  Dennye popped up on 8bc ages ago and disappeared almost immediately, but I've been listening to that song for months.  So glad to hear it leading off a fantastic release.

The textures and sounds are superb.

a column demystifying the Synth screen parameters would be super valuable if anyone can provide one.  i'd like to think i know enough about synthesis  to understand what each param does, but working the values and getting predictable results can still be a damn frustrating piece of alchemy.

I already have several columns on the wave channel planned, but Danimal Cannon did some nice in-depth work on the very parameters you're talking about in the thread ashinsmoke mentioned http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/5954/ … e-channel/

Though I might turn that thread into a compact column.

Cool stuff, I'll definitely check out the next instalment.

Also, I noticed a small typo "Notice that the echoed note corresponds to note the note it immediately follows but the one before that."

I assume that's supposed to be "not to".

Waaah.  I am embarrass.  Fixed.
