thanks! now that i've listened back a few times i think the mixing is pretty much spot on. just need to work on the buildup and the next section(s)! this will be part 3 of a 4-part epic, heh.

I believe gip only has some (recorder filled up) and ctrix only has audience.... gentlehursts recorder is on his way back to him (thanks Sean!) Then we can find out what he has?

Complicated!
Keep telling Eugene we just need to record it ourselves.

would love to get hold of any recordings that exist.

++ i really should invest in a good field recording device. iphone just doesn't cut it for live gigs!

man i still haven't caught up on sleep from the weekend. been too busy writing hypercolour dnb tracks!

.. inspired by how well the dnb remix of penguivman went on friday night, i've been working on more chippy dnb stuff:

bassdrum needs a bit of eq action, maybe the snare too. could probably also use a big growly bass when the lead isn't playing - and maybe some distorted guitar? though i don't want to clutter it. i'm sure good at cluttering my mixes, hah!

haha, i really shouldn't have chosen to attempt some of my most complex solos for my first live set with midi guitar! i had the set downpat at home but nerves were a bit too much onstage, heh. at least i powered through the topgear cover!

yessssssss can't wait! hope you guys are ready for some super turbo racing game music!

yeah big drums at some stage would be pretty excellent. maybe turn down that high synth? it's a bit overbearing at the moment hehe.

i can imagine a fleshbrain style bendy solo in there somewhere too!

maybe if fleshbrain or michiel van den bos started posting here.. i'm not too familiar with recent chiptune/demoscene artists

when that sub comes in.. aw shiiiiiit. and the beat at 3:05!!

can't wait to hear this live!

can the gameboy be bigger than us?

maybe we can bust out of giant polystyrene gameboys?

and have big stacks of polystyrene marshall amps in the background

i really should get over to sydney again soon and play a gig somewhere. maybe we can do a guitar/bass/chip doom set gip?

lol we could stand/sit facing each other with a gameboy in the middle

wink this is true but I am also looking for criticism so my next one is better.

what do you mean by present percussion?

maybe percussion that 'unwraps' to reveal a gift inside?

edit: you should have called it "chubby dip". will grab this tonightahh

not sure about other states, but soundbytes in melbourne happens about 2-3 times a year, i think? and there seem to be bursts of other related electronic shows in melbourne every now and then.

Although from the merch desk I couldn't tell what the deal was with the "I would end you" and broken teeth at that point

haha, he said that to my girlfriend, something like "if i didn't have such a boner for redheads i would END you!" after she pulled him down off the stage.

also have i met you at one of the shows? i'm bad enough with putting pseudonyms to faces, let alone given names.

ha! coupled with me using "poke world" in an album title, i may come across as a pokemon fan, zole. but it wasn't a pokemon reference!

i'm not a big fan of shuffly rhythms really, i'd rather just get to the point and do something with a triplet rhythm if anything. gonna write a few of those tracks for this new release actually. kinda gives things a lutz rahn / jean michel jarre vibe, or something.

Jellica wrote:

i think the mix is quite bassey, it sounds a little muddy down there.

yeah, most of my stuff lately has been pretty muddy. for previous work it's been intentional (a cloudy, psychedelic sound) but i've gotta try to shake that somehow.

think i need to take some of the low frequencies out of the bass synths maybe? i listened to empire of the sun on the way to work today (shut up tongue) and realised most of the bass comes from the bassdrum, while the bassline is a bit more subdued.. i guess that makes sense, since the drums are what would propel the song on a dancefloor. so i'll give that a try.

as for the sequence, it's been through a few iterations, i like the way it sounds going into the ambient section at the moment, that chord change is pretty dramatic, haha. but yeah, i'm thinking of having it go back into the chords of the first section at the end, to tie it together instead of being super progressive. and i'll probably add some drums in the ambient section as well.
