Yeah I'm gonna stand up and show some love for samples in LSDJ as well. The way LSDJ compresses and distorts samples gives them a very interesting and unique sound. I mean I also dig synthesizing my own drums as well, but sometimes samples are the way to go. Still pretty proud of some WAV channel only stuff I've done - http://datathrash.bandcamp.com/track/antichipmusick

That said, I don't see what the fuss is about this kraettz stuff, seems super basic and kind of boring to be honest. Compare that stuff to this (since they're kinda similar): https://soundcloud.com/wetmango/latenightcreepin

Or this, though SUPER NSFW: https://soundcloud.com/wetmango/overflo … s-wetmango

All of this is obviously super off topic...

if you have no social skills, drink. it helps. if you're heavily anti-alcohol, whatever. but i'm fucking socially retarded and i've found that at the very least a couple of shots before i play completely makes it possible for me to interact with the crowd. also makes it easier to talk with people at shows off the stage and whatnot. the more you drink, the easier it becomes, just don't throw up on stage, unless that is one of your transitions.

Your audience's applause and cheering should fill the gaps between songs.

That is not a good way of conduct if you try to make electronic dance music, which requires the maintenance of a continuous rhythm. In the event I visit a dance club, I am always put off when the music stops between songs or the rhythm of the next song is too different. It stops my dancing. My dancing should not stop.

Not all chipmusic is EDM, and chiptune shows aren't raves / dance clubs. Now, if you're going for the straight up EDM style, yeah, you probably shouldn't have silence between your tracks. I write stuff people can dance to, but I also write stuff that's good for moshing.

The issue isn't people, it's a lack of all ages venues down there. I'm sure they exist, you just gotta know the right people and get more involved with the underground art / DIY scene.

San Diego is also less than 2 hours from Los Angeles, and I guess up here we remotely have our shit more together than SD in terms of a chipscene...I dunno though, I always have more fun playing shows in San Diego. The venues actually pay, and they give you drink tickets. And the people who do come out are way rad.

WHO WANTS TO DRIVE UP TO SAN FRANCISCO FROM LOS ANGELES ON FRIDAY?! LETS DO THIS SHIT!!!!

What is up with this idea everyone has in their head that the internet forums they like to visit are "public" places where they have full free speech and shouldn't be moderated in the slightest? I mean, you guys do realize that someone pays for this site to exist, right? This site has an owner, and the owner trusts certain people to make sure this forum sucks less than it could. I disagree with some of the things the mods do or don't do but ultimately, if you really dislike the way the site is headed, I can send some virtual suitcases your way so you can move the fuck on down the road, if you like.

Also, that thread was ridiculous. It might have been interesting if you were engaged in it, but as an outsider I tell you that it was pretty much an overly dramatic pile of rancid feces.

Trash80 bought me dinner and a margarita at some fancy Mexican restaurant in San Diego last year, I was feelin' some love right there.

I'm not elitist, I just do not like laziness when it comes to doing research on the internet. There has never been a point within chipmusic history where information has been easier to find or more centrally located within a massive open community. It's not that hard to do a google search to find out where to buy LSDJ, and there is a very visible search bar to the right of the forum to look for various keywords that might pertain to a topic that someone is interested in.

Look, if I may play the grumpy old man card for a second, I started fucking around with chipmusic in 2004. Back then, at least as far as I know, there was nothing like chipmusic.org. There was no KitschBent. Hell, 8bc didn't even exist yet. After I found out that people were making 8bit music, I did some searches on Google and eventually found Nerdtracker 2. I downloaded it, and taught myself the basics of it. If I hadn't put in the effort to figure these things out on my own, I would not have figured them out. I didn't know of anyone to answer any stupid n00b questions I might have had.

Obviously it's fucking great that information is a lot easier to find now, but it's frustrating to me that the easier it gets for someone to locate this information, the more lazy people seem to become about searching for it. People want to be spoonfed rather than take the time to figure it out themselves or do a damn search. And how is that going to translate to the music they eventually make? If you can't manage to put forth the effort to search for "LSDJ" on Google, how the hell are you going to learn how to program tracks in LSDJ that do not sound like total dogshit?

Being a n00b is not an excuse for being a helpless, lazy idiot! You will impress people right out of the fucking gate with simple gestures like searching old threads and bumping one of those instead of starting your own to ask questions that have already been answered 100 times here.

I've had similar ideas. But instead of stopping people from posting, there would be a small banner at the top of the page informing about the search function and other useful things, until you reach x posts. Thoughts?

That's a good idea too, but I have no faith in people and thus I'm skeptical that the majority would pay attention to any banner telling them how to use a completely obvious and not at all hidden search function. It certainly couldn't hurt, though.

50 posts could be a bit excessive. It might encourage a new user to just spam the CC or Release forums, make a one-word post in every thread like "Cool!" or something just to get their first 50. Public forums are always going to have problems and creating ridiculously strict rules is not necessarily going to make them go away.

50 was just a suggestion, 25 would probably be more realistic. This kind of rule cuts down on the kind of person who would simply pop in to promote some shitty release they threw together a week after learning LSDJ, or to ask where they can buy LSDJ, and instead it promotes the idea of people joining the community and participating in threads. If people spammed to raise their post count, someone could hit the report button and that person could be dealt with. I doubt it would be a widespread problem, seems like a lot more work than just using the search function.

there's always been an issue with people starting stupid threads here, and it seems a lot of them are new members. so why not make it so that you must have a minimum number of posts before you can start a thread? 50 is a good number. it encourages new members to join in with current conversation, cuts down on Saskrotch having to pop in with links to searches that should've been done, and also cuts down on the number of stupid threads being sent to the graveyard. just a thought.

I said it on Facebook as well, but last time I saw Anamanaguchi I got kicked right in the face like two or three days after getting my septum pierced. I have very high expectations for the Los Angeles show.

I've had the idea to get the following tattooed on my arm for several years now, so I guess I'll do it...(in italic Times New Roman font and centered):

IN MY OWN
STRANGE WAY
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN
TRUE TO YOU...

If you know where it's from, we could probably be friends.

Also want to get something related to Wizwars somehow, either the logo or a Game Boy, hell maybe both. And a Misfits skull. I'm against band logos, but it's something to represent my love of punk rock since my teenage years, those days really shaped me into who I would eventually become and it would be nice to have something to honor that.

Tattoos are a personal thing and others opinion generally doesn't matter. My wife has some stupid tattoos that I make fun of her about, like the Smashing Pumpkins logo on her forearm. But as she's said, it was her second tattoo when she was 18, and that was her favorite band. She doesn't listen to them as much anymore but to her it represents a period of her life and she's still happy to have it, I guess that's all that really matters.

I like this, kind of reminds me of Nine Inch Nails in a way.

Yeah, that video confirms it - this thing is insanely cool.

Was this a pun? You must've been pretty 'jacked' yourself... tongue

This guy gets it!

Cuddle Television, you're in Garden Grove? Wassup neighbor, I'm in La Habra. Have I seen you at shows?
