what's the bounty?

Well, I've been trying for a while now to get mine to work. I have it built, and the light flashes 3 times and stays lit on startup. I'm running OSX with ableton sending midi to hairless>serial via the built in IAC. The hairless debug shows up as receiving the correct midi messages  (ranging from 40-60 with varying velocities). I have my ftdi serial set to 38400 in hairless preferences.

I've gotten to this point, but all I'm getting is a brief quiet click anytime a midi message is sent (note on, note off, cc, pitchbend, etc) I'm also getting a quiet noise whenever I change an I/O setting in hairless with the synth connected. Additionally, I get a short quiet blip when change the channel setting in ableton (a message which hairless interprets as a single pitchbend point).

I'm using the YM flavor chip with a sparkfun 5v usb to ftdi cable and installed the drivers from this site (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm)

Any help would be very appreciated!!

Hey everybody,

I'm having some issues with my YM_MINI synth, so I thought I'd see if there's anybody on here who knows a bit more about it than me. There used to be a forum specifically for troubleshooting it, but it looks like it's been taken down tongue

If anybody can help me out, please let me know, thanks!

So here is the deal. If someone can get a copy of MIDI NES to me, I can recreate it.
I can recreate MIDI NES and begin a new production line of it at an affordable rate. This I promise. I am even willing to trade one of my for-sale GB's for one.

sounds legit

basically nobody posts stuff on the internet about pokemon without caring about SOME pokemon thing. i'm just not pretending that my other cool nerd things are so cool that it's alright to trash pokemon just because a lot of people enjoy it tongue

i've pretty much play in mono exclusively for live sets; the inevitable problems just aren't worth it. plus, stereo tends to sound kinda crappy for 2/3's of the house tongue

i got so sad when i read the thread title sad

Not sure if this is what you're describing?

"The sounds of this instrument are made from low resolution samples and thus partly have quite funny timbres. There is a reverb in most percussive and many other sounds, that was likely added to hide the aliasing noise of the low sample resolution and to sound differently than Yamaha."

just listening to the first track, is off key what he's going for? it definitely is off key, but maybe that's not a problem if it's what he wants...

The synthcart I was using was brand new. I contacted AA and they were very gracious about letting me try another. I have, however, been out of town for a few weeks, but hopefully when I get back I can figure it out tongue

harmonic content is physically equivalent to any other kind of sound, just at a lower spl than its fundamental. from what i understand, higher frequency sounds are known to be more damaging to hearing (why violin players typically experience hearing loss is their left ears), so a sound pallet that has particularly emphasized high harmonics does seem like it could be more damaging.
