Alright, late new years resolution: I will no longer white knight newcomers with big ideas because they invariably start coming back with flippant unfunny responses that make me feel like a dumbshit for bothering. Someday I'll learn.
Seconded.

A chip wiki
Just reminding everybody that this is indeed the best result that can come of this thread. Considering starting it myself. Trust me when I say that you don't want me to do that. EDIT: (How do I keep getting the first post on the next page?)
It's only redeeming qualities were a vintage Vespa and cool robots... other than that, it kinda sucked.
I enjoy it quite a bit for the sake of nostalgia and being a melodramatic teen. That and, for what it was, at least it was short. And had original characters. And character development. And a pretty fluid animation style. And a good soundtrack. And took place in a static setting. Actually, given those features, it's some pretty good work. Opinion not upheld.
This isn't exactly in the same vein as the other pictures but I had this on my desktop because I was thinking about how cool the concept was. A fictional video game featured in the anime series Fooly Cooly called Firestarter. All you do is burn building after building until you've destroyed the entire city, pleasing some entity called The Lord of Black Flames. Not sure if it's making any kind of reference to (Rome) or not. Fun fact: You can watch the six episode series (here). Episode 2 features the game.
I actually miss the patch book because I would see a clever way to get a sound, then mutate and apply that technique to everything else to create totally new sounds. But yeah, LSDJ is a lot of experimentation really.
I'd be all about it now that I've reached more of a plateau in my learnin'. ....and It would be awesome to get one up again (possibly on the slowly expanding Chipapedia)
Well I think this jumps right to the heart of the issue. Why even have CC? Presumably, because some people will benefit from CC. It's a pretty sound argument that some people can, and maybe they're more skilled and can actually "talk about" their music. But you certainly can't tell people not to ask for CC just because they're noobsters.
Imo, it's an issue of self-censorship on the behalf of those participating in the threads. If somebody posts a pile of shit hardly worthy of being called an album - for the sake of argument, three tracks composed of incomprehensible garbles and static (like, literally, static.. like a cord fell out somewhere and they just included it) - then ignore the shit out of it. Ignore it like you were flaming it?
Okay, maybe I'm way out of line here but what I was thinking about a week or so ago was this:
A chip wiki
A wiki would be an easy way to organize tons of information about the whole of the genre including software, hardware, techniques, history... I found (this wiki) but, I don't know if I'm judging too quickly, but it looks like a non-comprehensive piece of shit wiki. I'm sure the members here could create a very successful and comprehensive chip wiki if they wanted to. But, you know, that sounds like a lot of work...
In my mind, it sounds like a more effective solution than the OP (no offense, I like the site).
Hey, now. I don't think we can invalidate someone's love for chip just because they loved pkmn music when they were a kid (myself heavily included). That's like saying pkmn music doesn't count as valid inspiration; all should be damned who don't think it is. I do agree about the feelgoods thing though. People are whimsical creatures but everyone starts somewhere. I'm sure a good many were at one point a member of the feelgoods happydance party. That's where I'm at right now.
Being a representative noob, capable of irritating established members if I made noobish threads, I gotta say I've felt pretty welcome here. Of course, I haven't posted much in threads but I think that's part of being new. You gotta lurk and gather whatever info you can while staying out of people's way until you can "contribute." I've had a few questions I couldn't answer easily by research but knowledgeable members (picked out as major contributors in threads) were happy to answer my questions in PMs. I was even expecting to get ignored or told to do the hard reading myself but was pleasantly surprised. (nerdsome, death star, ryu, and cuddle TV have been bros to me)
Personally, I really enjoy the atmosphere of the forum. If people acting dickish really bugs you so much, you're not just a noob - you're a noob to forums. Then again, my home forum is a much worse place than this will ever be. heh heh
Land, Sea, and Air is chill as Fulfillingwordsoverbreakonsaturdaymorning. Bone Arrow is some straight up classic feel goodness. Ascension is Zeldaworthy. Hospital Corners gave me the feels. Like, any second, an 8bit version of "changes" was about to come on. That or The Eels. 32K32K is baby makin' music. Spokane is incredible and gorgeous. That and I live near Spokane.
Hey, there. I'm new to the chipscene and don't yet own a dmg (modded or stock) but I'm looking for one. I've been reading a lot about the mods and figuring out a little bit of whosewho online. I'd like to inherit a mod so I can use it and learn from it first hand. I own a couple of old beaten up GBPs, a GBC, (that I'll keep around as future material) a GBASP, and a 3DS I'm gonna sell off soon.
I was first introduced to chip through (u guessed it) anamanguchi a few years ago. Since then I listened to a bit of nullsleep among others. Surprisingly, I still like basic music from retro games above all else. I guess hearing the word "busy" so much as an english major made me gravitate towards compositions that are more simplistic or direct.
Actually, upon review, THIS was the first chiptune song I had ever heard. I'm not sure how the song was produced but it was definitely the first song that made me think, "Oh yeah! I remember games that sounded like that!"
In the future, I hope to learn more about modding and do some myself (hopefully it would end up being worth showing off), make some tunes, and some friends. |=VC|< u pkmn
