have fun.
revel in the fact that there's probably at least one person there whose mind you're blowing by using game hardware as an instrument.
don't get too down if some people walk out or seem annoyed.
Bring a spare game boy in case something breaks.
ALWAYS recharge your rechargeable batteries the day before the show.
have more fun.

Oblique Strategies

hell yeah.

also, i try and cover a song from a genre that i feel i don't fit into, and try and recreate the sounds from that on my platform. Often I'll find that one of those sounds is interesting enough to try and use in an original piece.

I'm pretty sure EMDash got some video on his Flip, hopefully he'll post it soon.

last night was made of wow.

no worries. if it was a bleepbloop cart it probably had a mini cd with it. if not,  i think there may be a thread in which someone's linked to it on here or on 8bc. if it's ems, theres probably a link on hkems.com or on kitsch/nonfinite's site. not positive on that though.

Depends on your cart- if you're using a bleepbloop cart or an EMS USB cart, then yes. you need the software that goes with it, which probably came with your cart.  There's no drag and drop function, you'll need to write the RAM (the sav file) to the cart using the Write RAM button within the software. You can use the Read RAM button to pull the sav file off the cart later to back it up on your computer.
if it's an old blue EMS cart without a usb jack, then you'll need to use a transferrer or transferrer II, which is decidedly more difficult to use.

Also- if you're using a mac, the software is different- i think its GBCFlash or something like that- im sure someone here with a mac knows better than i do.

would there be a way to put in some sort of extremely short variable delay? like, some notes play a hair early, some play a hair late to "humanize" the doubled line? i know putting an equal delay on all notes would just sound like a chorus pedal, but if you could change the value on each note maybe it'd work?

There's an unspoken rule here (which i guess should be spoken more often, as we see it inadvertently broken all the time by new members) that people on this forum expect newcomers to do a little searching on their own before posting a question which could be answered to some extent by a simple google search. As weird as it sounds, google is often your best friend when it comes to answering questions like that. I understand you probably wanted the chip perspective on it, which is fine, but people like to see proof that the newcomers aren't just showing up expecting to be spoonfed all the answers.
The Crystal Castles and Covox references are jokes related to past chiptheft. We like to joke about that from time to time here. It helps us get over the hurt.
Honestly, Plainflavored's list is a great place to start.  Ant1's comments are great too.  I will also add this - try and network with like-minded musicians.  Go to shows, shake hands, make friends. From there, book shows, play shows, get people to film it, put it online, put out a record, promote the record on forums...just look at what other people have done promotion-wise and try and do something similar.
Good luck.

The PSU on the 128 is known to be more reliable than that of the C64.

Some people use connector-modified 128 PSUs on C64s because of this.

Yep, when i had a C64 i used a modded 128 power supply and it worked like a charm.

Consider getting some rechargeable batteries, it's well worth it.

Definitely. I've been using mine for a year now and I've saved so much money by just recharging.

read the manual, google "lsdj tutorial" or "nanoloop tutorial" depending on what you're using.
google is your best friend. youtube has tons of material. so does vimeo. look and you shall find.
