Re: Bit wish: Debuting EP (32 replies, posted in Releases)
For a more song / groove oriented person like me its little bit all over the place, I liked also 24 & 38, but they could have been better with keeping only 2-3 parts. Stay with things little bit longer, work on your sense of melody, make drums punchier. But then again, if its intented to be proggy then go crazy.

Re: Your thoughts on the chip music community (213 replies, posted in General Discussion)
i guess at least we aren't all just yes-men. as far as criticism goes, being negative seems like a pretty good approach. if its constructive after all. rewarding people positively all the time results in a world of fatties (no offense anyone, i've dun-lopped myself)
This. On all parts.
However, I dont follow stuff here that much anymore and only kinda comment releases I really like. But yeah people grow up, their music changes etc. Theres more variety to chip music now than ever before I think. It creates microcommunities inside communities. Thats how it goes.

Re: Advice for first gig? (19 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Another thing: if you're playing an instrument that is on a table (like a keyboard), take some time to get used to it's height. Play through some riffs of a song with the sound off or something, it definitely helps nail down the muscle memory aspect.
This is actually a really good idea. I always rehearse my set standing and using a shitty too low table (because normally thats the case that table is suited for midgets). Start on time, stop on time is a good advice for most of noobs too. Have made that mistake myself on some of the first shows back in 2005 or so. Bring your own cables, mixer etc. And bring more cables than you think you need.

Played guitar a bit as teenager, listened all kinds of music religiously for tens of years. No formal training but I think I understand basics okay just by the experience of knowing more than 5 bands.

drugs.
Best advice in this thread. Sorta joking, sorta not. To make good music I think you have to listen shitloads of music, play couple of instruments and rest comes or doesnt come naturally.
