Awesome!

I donated the lsdsng for the live version of my track "Victory Lapse", so I assume people who donate will get that.

Can't wait to see you cats at BRKfest 2013!

I've just played a few and watched a few, but I think they're kind of fun.  A lot of times I don't really watch them.  I just let the music play while I do something else, or chat with other viewers.

I haven't figured out anything visually interesting to do during my webshows, so I just point the camera at the mixer so people can watch what I'm doing.  I *always* make sure I do something that people don't hear on my official releases, though.  I play some unreleased songs, alternate versions of songs, add effects, etc.

I think a real-time Q&A chat with artists could be cool.  Since some of us are just mixing/pressing Game Boy buttons, we could encourage audience members to ask questions during the show and answer them in real time.  Questions about programming or patches or mixing or gear or "what key is that in?" or whatever.  *shrug*

Just a quick note: I've been sending out emails with a link to the .sav and lsdsng files at the end of each day.

If something went wrong and you donated but did not get a link, PM me or email me at roboctopus (at) gmail (dot) com

This is really cool.  Just messing around with it creates a really wide range of tones.  It really does remind me of osc sync sounds.

I would be interested in hearing more about how you achieved this.

It's fun to play with as-is, and I am certainly looking forward to trying to add it into a track, but any way to make it a bit more "musical" in the future will be really exciting.

Cool! I'll try this out tomorrow, might be a cool way to start off a set!

Ha!  That's the first thing I thought.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!  I wasn't sure what people were going to think of this, given that the tracks all have a slow-ish start.

And my wife thought the cover was of a dancing woman too.

This is really good.  You get some flat-out fantastic sounds out of the DS-10.

Hey guys.  So this is not the 2xLSDJ release I've been working on.  That's not finished (and due to some gear issues, I can't record it satisfactorily currently).

I wanted to put out this little three-track EP first, as a kind of extended coda to "Victory Lapse", and to close out the year.  Or something.  So yeah, here are 3 tracks I enjoyed writing.  I know earlier version of two of them have been on my soundcloud for awhile, but I thought they deserved a proper release (And they've changed.)

So, 1xLSDJ, three tracks.  I hope you guys dig them.

I'm releasing a little three-song EP next week.  1xLSDJ material--this isn't the 2xLSDJ project I've been working on since June.  (Hopefully that will be out in January/February.)

Actually, fuck it. Because people are too rash to just notify any possibly concerned artists to ask him to remove any music they really want taken down, I'm just going to download every single piece of music on this, free or not, and never pay for another piece of music again (especially chip). You have ruined my favourite blog over your pettiness, so I will be even more petty. Even more loathesome than you.

Holy shit dude.  Chill out.  Why is it that everyone reacts SO strongly?

I posted this blog as a simple heads-up to artists who want money for their work.  This forum is mostly frequented by artists.  Some of them might care about their stuff being posted for free.  (For the record, my stuff is on that blog and I don't care, because my stuff is free already, and I kind of like that blog.  I'm not trying to make a living at chip music.  Anamanaguchi is, and maybe they won't like their stuff posted for free on blogs, I dunno.)

As far as cm.org threads go, this has been pretty mild, honestly, so I'm confused about why you're taking such huge offense.

The most offensive thing in this entire thread, in my opinion, is your statement about "anyone dumb enough to pay for digital music."  Because, hey, people who just release music digitally are fucktards who don't deserve money, right?

One thing the blog in question does right is not posting added content.  Danimal Cannon's Roots album, as downloaded from the blog, doesn't come with the lsdsngs and .sav files.  That's a nice move on the blog's part, because bonus content like source files are things people pay for.  Good on the blog.

But heaven forbid someone get paid for releasing an album as mp3!

the problem isnt the blog. the problem is that it is a shitty blog.

I actually didn't think it was a shitty blog.  The descriptions are short, but lots of links to the artists work are provided.  It's obvious that a lot of work is put into the blog.

I was just giving people a heads-up about the mediafire thing, which is a bit shady (ha-ha!) as far as paid content goes.  I'm not even sure if it has any bearing on CC-licensed stuff that's free any way, since attribution is given.

I agree with you, but still, lets talk to the guy, and not make he hate us.

Yeah, he's obviously a fan of the music.  People that don't like the mediafire links for content might just be able to email him about it.

Hey guys, don't flip out.  All my stuff is free so it doesn't bother me.  This was more of a heads-up for those that are trying to sell their music.  They may want to send the guy an email or something.

FYI

http://no-need-for-blognames.blogspot.com/

While this guy does post links to artists' bandcamp pages, he also posts mediafire links to downloads of releases, including ones that are not free.  (For instance, Danimal Cannon's "Roots" is on there for free.)

I don't think that's very cool.

You'll learn a lot from this song: http://lsdsng.com/song/colour-television

My first EP came with lsdsng and .sav for all the songs:  http://archive.org/details/Pb046Roboctp … BeenErased

EDIT

Though I'd like to add that if you know the basics already, you might get more interesting results by listening to a song very, very carefully over and over and imagining how *you* might make the same sounds.  When I was starting out I got more out of trying to puzzle out how to do something, because if you work on replicating someone else's sound through trial and error, you'll learn a lot more.

Something something it builds character, Calvin.

Faerlight, people might post irritated replies because in this community, this is an old debate that comes up often.

That being said, I think it is a medium, but a medium with such severe stylistic ticks and limitations that it confuses people.  If you can pick up a game boy and make a funk tune, a dance track, a bossa nova piece, and something with a European folk dance flavor, then that's a medium.

What confuses people is that due to hardware limitations, composer often resort to stylistic tricks like arps or bass and drum on the same channel.  These things, coupled with the distinct sound of raw waveforms and noise percussion, lead people to apply the genre tag.

My theory, anyway.

My game boy music is not in the same genre as Danimal Cannon or Monodeer, etc.  Medium, I say!
