Hmm... not sure if they're rooted in the demoscene, but at least the online community:

Ochre
Marumari (Spotted him on 8bc the other day)
Ilkae

Basically, check the Monotonik catalogue

Iqtu, Proem, maybe early Cex, uhh... Casino vs Japan?

Thanks guys! big_smile

joule: I picked up work on the custom waveform VSTi again after reading your post. I really would like to add the breakpoint graph volume and pan controls, but these are a lot of work. I'm on it, though.

fluidvolt: You should be able to do vibrato delay (by just upping the vibrato parameter a little after note trigger), or do you mean a delay < 1 tick? That would mean another control, which I'm not too fond of because I'm really happy with the interface as it is.

Edit: I could link it to the pitch attack-speed slider though. That would allow simple vibrato delay if the depth is set to 0. Hmm.

Alright, first submission is in! Get your gear crunching, everyone!

Hmm, I only remember Alec Empire's, but you got that one already. There were a few game soundtracks available on CD, but they hardly count because the where mostly pimped versions recorded from synths. When did Purple Motion release his album? *checks* 2004, too late. Bodenständig 2000 had some 90s releases. Edit: Ah damn, you got those, too.

I'd like to add this quote to the wiki chiptune article, may I?

Since it seems to be a bit vague, I removed the link from the first post for now. Better safe than sorry.

Ah, that was for the sample thread. I prefer to have specialized libraries, they tend to be a bit more refined about the topic they're on. But I agree that freesound is a nice source. Thanks for having a look!

Could one of you polyglots check the second point in the "read this first" section of this site and tell me if it would be kosher to use the samples there in a track? I don't trust google translation enough for that. Thanks!

Ah, good point the mist toggles. Could a kind soul who is knowledgeable of the lingo check if the second point in the "read this first" section just prohibits uploading the sound files to another page, or general use (as in sampling for music)? Thanks!

Haha, awesome. My anime-tainted brain got ready for mecha carnage when I listened to the Shinkansen station announcement, probably because that calm and friendly announcer voice is used whenever a space station is about to blow up. The eerie hum of the train didn't help. Added!

Ok, I admit the filter sounds really, really awesome. But $100 for a simple OSC with LFO the size of a matchbox? I'll pass, thanks.

Explosion of awesome!

Well, it doesn't have to be that open. A second upload slot for native formats should be sufficient, and the author can decide whether to upload an mp3 along with it or not. I used to be pro site-player for modules, but I'm not too sure anymore if a server-side player is really neccessary. People who download mods are usually interested in either the structure or genuine sound, and thus should have more dedicated players/tools/hardware than a java applet or something could hope to offer.

Server rendering is hmmm too, because I imagine people to be picky about their recording/rendering settings. Interpolation, yes or no? Quality settings of the renderer? etc etc

I like how BotB does this. Anyone can upload renders of a track, if the author doesn't do it himself, while the song page offers download links for either and a player when a mp3 is present.

Ugh, that's pretty apples and oranges. But since you qualified the question with personal preference, I'll go with RDJ (that is, including his many aliases, foremost the stuff he released as Aphex Twin and AFX). In the long run I can get more out of his music, especially since it has an insanely high re-listening value for me. There's all these little details that make me go 'woah' even after the n-th listen.
