Thanks for the reply! I used to have XP and it workes just fine, maybe had to shake the cart a little for it to work. I sucessfully wrote Wario Land, Shantae and Zelda and they worked great.
Maybe it's something with the driver.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium (or something).
Also have the Chinese-sold SMC cartridge with its linker.
And I installed both the official software and the original Reiner Ziegler's utility.
The official Smart Boy software shows Timeout every time, no matter what I do.
The Reiner Ziegler one starts erasing flash, then shows Timeout just before it reaches 95%.
I don't have a virtual machine and my XP desktop is broken.
Thanks!
I have a white DMG originally distributed in China (it says so on the back) that I'm going to backlight. Could anyone tell me how much I could get for one with or without backlight? Thanks!
Is that... Is that a custom GBC screen with backlight? Please...
Dude you could've announced it before I bought the Smart Boy 32M cart from China
I have four working PCBs with shells that I'd love to trade for DMG parts. Problem is that I'm from Spain and shipping will be excessive.
The music is highly professional and very sophisticated but I don't like it. It's because of this mathcore/djent thing going on, I just don't get it. I'm more into Empire-era Queensrÿche and Scenes from a Memory-era Dream Theater. Thanks for the share, though.
If you are good with soldering then I highly recommend desoldering the ribbon cable at the bottom of the LCD, peeling and cleaning it, then soldering it back together.
Yes! I did this and it wasn't too hard. All you do is heat the back side of the pads (thin board thingy) even if it turns black. The pads will get loose quick and you will have a clean job done.
they are in china, you can get them on taobao.
hey downstate.... you should look into that. there is a huge demand, last time i checked taobao they were on there. there is potential in that.
for all the REALLY hardup smartboy-wating people, check out taobao buying services, you can get them to purchase it and ship for a free. buyfromtaobao.com for example...
there is another service that starts with either a B or a H that i've used, can't remember right now. buyfromtaobao is ok though, slightly slower.
Shhhhhhhhhh....
Thanks Nitro for the useful reply. Thanks everybody else for some bits of history.
I'm thinking about getting a Smart Boy so I can use the included programmer for my diy carts.
Hey,
I was browsing a a cached version of 8bc and realised there's many projects from 2009 and 2010 that were never completed. What happened to the Backwood Scotty board and the MicroSD to Game Boy flash cart?
I am thinking about making my own version of the former and was wondering if anybody else has interest in stuff like that...
I have four complete Pockets without the screen(I'm a great modder), these include: shell with battery cover, motherboard, buttons and screws.
These are:
Silver UK 1st edition sans LED 6€
Silver UK 1st edition sans LED 6€
Green US 5€
Red UK (brand new screen protector) 5€
International shipping from Spain is 5€ for one. 7€ for two. 10€ for three or more.
25€ for all 4 including shipping. Will throw in a GBASP motherboard (needs power jack replacement) for free.
I'm also looking for a DMG!
This post is very useful, thanks! I broke 3 MGB screens before learning how to clean the glue residue correctly. This might sound impossible but I once managed to unsolder the lower contacts and solder them back after cleaning the screen. This requires luck most of the time. Also, don't do it unless you can afford a replacement Pocket (here they're over 10€ each so I slow down on the cleaning to avoid mistakes). Oh, and happy new year!
Hello! This is my first post here on chipmusic but I've been active for some time on www.elotrolado.net (a Spanish videogame forum) and more recently 8bc.org.
I purchased three types of backlight from two distributors: LEDx3 vb from Kitsch-Bent and V3, RGB from Nonfinite.
My first intent of a backlight mod was a complete disaster. I broke 4 LCD screens before I got the hang of it.
My best advice for novice users would be: "don't do it. I'm serious."
Here's a few pics of my second successful modification made with Nonfinite's panel. Hope you enjoy it.
And the wiring setup (works with both models, remember to use resistor with Nonfinite's)
Thanks for looking!
