Wait... you can extract individual song files and move them to a different lsdj.sav? REALLY?? I had no idea. I've been using LSDJ on emulators on multiple computers, and dreading the day when I would get a flash-cart and have to keep loading .savs based on which songs I want to edit.

This thread has been very useful for me.

Given the nature of the medium, one would think this would be a priority feature. I think it'd be awesome to use the link cable to share songs. I think it'd be even cooler if you could use the GBC's infra-red port to zap songs to your laptop.

When watching the streaming videos that my church was broadcasting, it would only play through the right speaker. I went into the computer and, turns out, the audio settings application hadn't been installed, and after I installed it, I found that the Left channel was turned all the way down, and the slider was panned all the way to the right. I don't know how that affected the recording, but it seems must have.

AFAIC, if you plan on plugging your gameboy directly into a PC for recording purposes, you'd be better off with a 1/8", as a 1/4" instrument cable may be too heavy for the PC, and cause damage to your PC's microphone or line-in jack.

I hope you didn't think I was saying "I didn't like your music, but at least you like it."

I was just commenting on the quote of your grandfather with a general consolation to anybody who feels their effort was worth nothing.

I wasn't going to come back to explain my post, but you quoted it, and then quoted yourself quoting it, so I had to say something.

Making $$ on your debut release is something to be proud of, I'd think.

I honestly felt really really bad about posting my own release because I feel like I honestly do jack shit as far as the actual evolution of music goes.

but my grandfather told me "If you don't value your time and effort nobody will"

I just wanted people to hear my music.

and I was REALLY REALLY hoping people would enjoy it.

And if still nobody values your time and effort after that, at least you have something you can enjoy ingesting yourself.

The album will be officially available in July. However, if you donate to the Kickstarter project, you can get it early. I was listening through an external media player, so I wasn't in the live chat room when they linked to the project (if they did).

Good stuff. I tuned in about 47 minutes late, but from what I heard, I will be getting this album when it comes out in July, or even earlier if I decide to donate to the kickstarter thingy.

Well if you're serious about this, you need to get a 1/8" cable so you can record into a computer. it's hard to really tell what's going on in this.

that's how I'm recording it now. I just sounds really scratchy for some reason. if you have any tips on how to fix that I'd be happy to hear them!

also I think my cable is pretty shit

Ah... is this what recording from the headphones jack sounds like without the pro-audio mod? Oh, scratch that.

It has a very militaristic sound. It sounds like you are aiming for a higher compositional quality than what you're yet capable of. That's not a bad thing.

Your bass and snare sound really tight. I really like them. That arpeggioey thing at the :50 mark could use some kind of volume sweeping, because it's kind of loud and over-powering.

any advice on how to accomplish volume sweeps?

would I just use the E command?

Yeah, you could use E. That's probably the easiest way unless you have other effects going. Also, changing the shape of the instrument (e.g. from 25% to 12.5%) has a perceived volume change. Experiment. It's just my personal preference, but I like when rollercoaster melodies fade in and out. I actually just did that with a tune i was working on today, which is why I suggested it.

Take it all with a grain of salt, of course.

I like it. A little deviance from that two note progression might help, but it doesn't really seem to need much. Maybe a few drum breaks? A snappier heavier snare on some parts might make the percussion stand out more. Maybe some gimmicky sound effects from the bass channel while it's not kicking.

There's a lot you could do with it, but those same things could be left out and it still sounds good.

You're right about all the songs having the same structure making the album itself repetitive. Didn't thought about that.

Kick would be fine to me, if it was lowered in volume just a little. It's at that volume where it's hijacking the song. Yeah do variation in the melody for it's return and this should be fine!

Anyone else hearing Christmas songs now? I think the last 4 bars of the melody are close to a song that I can't put my finger on.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"

I like it. I'd listen to it, but with less "donk-donk-donk". It's just a tad over powering, and too high-Q sounding. A bridge breakdown would be nice, but it's not absolutely necessary. A verse variation would be great.

I really enjoyed the tune, and trying to pick apart the techniques you used to get all the sounds going. It made me think of how Ape Escape would be if it were an 8-bit anime.

IMO, the synths sound too hi-fi. Not 8-bit.

The tunes are pretty cool, though. I could imagine them in a game like "Atomic Runner" or a darker-edgier Ape Escape.

The 403 made more sense.

Is this some kind of a joke?

Caught some heat on another forum for the condescending tone of our latest response (which is understandable). Here's my reply to that in case anyone here is feeling the same way:

Apologies for the bluntness. Didn't mean to disrespect anyone, just wanted to be upfront about everything. But really when I said suitability I meant that. There were many tracks that sounded really cool but they just weren't what we wanted for our game's main menu. Also there were a few guys who basically said "here's my track, let me know if you want any changes or something completely different." So this is an invitation for them to try something different, if they want to. I figured it could only help us in getting the perfect track.

One guess as to what forum that was.

One guess as to why most of the remixes that come from that forum are just missing that "certain something" that would allow them to deserve the title of "over-clocked", or even just "really good".

I doubt anybody here would be offended by your tone.

I'm going to have to go check out some of K-wix's stuff, because I really didn't like most of what he did to some of my favorite Cave Story songs in the Cave Story Wii, +, and 3D ports. But he must have something going for him.

Sorry, I have nothing to contribute to this thread, but I look forward to seeing how this all turns out.
